Cold Heat is one of a series of three paintings by Sara-Vide Ericson, all of which feature the artist’s likeness as the central figure. We seem to have intruded upon her, as she walks through the grass. Her arms crossed in a protective posture, but her eyes focused, determined. Is she being threatened? Are we? The figures in Ericson’s paintings explore environments that seem strange, yet familiar and Ericsson drops us right in the middle of it. This untamed world she creates with thick strokes and vibrant colors exists as both physical place and emotional state. In confronting the darker and wilder places of the world, Ericsson invites us to confront the darker regions of the mind.

Ericsson studied at the Royal University College of Fine Arts, Stockholm, Sweden and Idun Lovén Art School, Stockholm, Sweden. She recently had solo exhibitions at Gävleborgs Länsmuseum, Sweden, and Galleri Magnus Karlsson, Sweden.
