Mona Hatoum is Palestinian. She was born in Beirut and grew up in Lebanon. She now lives and works between London and Berlin. Her early practice revolved around performance but since the 1990s she has gravitated towards installation, photography, and sculpture. She both makes things and adapts found materials that upend expectations. Often her works alter and make different everyday or domestic things. In this way, Hatoum is very much a conceptual artist with a body of work that is diverse and esoteric. She talks about her making process as fluid, intuitive, and impulsive.
