Kim Fisher’s recent paintings investigate collage as both a technique and a language. The paintings begin as small paper collage studies that incorporate a range of printed elements, including fashion magazines, newspapers, and shopping bags. The artist has developed a rigorous method of paint application which she then uses to translate these studies into larger, complex, and sometimes photo-realistic oil paintings.
Kim Fisher received her BA from the University of California in Los Angeles in 1996 and her MFA from Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles in 1998. Fisher’s work has been exhibited internationally, with recent shows in Glasgow, Scotland, Los Angeles, CA and New York. She participated in the 2004 Whitney Biennial at The Whitney Museum of American Art.
