Lines/Edges: Frank Stella on Paper celebrates Stella’s four decade-long adventure in printmaking and collage. Over twenty works range from lithographic adaptations of the Black Paintings (1959-60) to magnificent technical experimentations from the 1980s and 90s. Lines/Edges culminates with Moby Dick Deckle Edges, nine large-scale prints that make up part of the artist’s massive multiyear project inspired by Herman Melville’s epic novel.
While not a survey in the formal sense, Lines/Edges allows for a fascinating overview of Frank Stella’s approach to printmaking. It touches on key moment from his career – from minimalist to maximalist – with themes that range from literature to music, travel, art history, auto-racing, and cigar smoking. It celebrates Stella’s capacity for change, his yen for technical challenges, and his savvy multidisciplinary approach.
Pair: Glen Baldridge and Alex Dodge is the inaugural edition in what will be a series of exhibitions juxtaposing two artists from the Pizzuti Collection. Glen Baldridge and Alex Dodge experiment sharply and slyly with materials and this exhibition is an unfolding narrative about their respective processes.
