Pérez’s paintings describe an urban utopian vision, with a surrealist cityscape, fully encapsulated in a giant lens. With Ahorrativo, the symbols of an island nation are apparent with a giant octopus chandelier, a shipwreck, falling or floating seamen, and jellyfish, all perched above the grand city below. Ladacar III plays with a LEGO house set in a vibrant metropolitan city, encased in a dome. The lack of clarity, surrealist fog that surrounds the cities, questions reality. Time is elastic, is it a dream?
History painting, confused. Time and space refigured.
Born in Cienfuegos, 1972, Pérez graduated from the Instituto Superior de Arte, Havana, in 1996. He currently works as a Professor of Painting at the Instituto Superior de Arte, Havana.
