Ann Hamilton’s body of work is an extraordinary array of objects, installations and actions. Encompassing, project-based, ensconced in ideas about the power of the senses and the shapes and effects of language, Hamilton’s works involve the body and immersive acts of gathering or dissembling of materials (books, pennies, powder, denim, words, photographs), creating sound (readings, singing) or initiating movement of people or things (swinging, dancing, falling). Often her projects relate to their specific place and are responsive to their environment even as they tend to be ephemeral, passing, and temporary occasions that highlight human experiences.
